It all began with an idea…

Have you ever been in the midst of doing something and you have this “aha” moment?

Starting my own business was that moment for me. Initially, my thought process with 4Runners PT because I drove a Toyota 4Runner and enjoyed that athletic background and almost every sport involves running. Then I decided A Mother’s Touch Physical Therapy after receiving a prenatal diagnosis of my daughter’s Trisomy 21. After doctors pushed for abortion due to the health problems that are common with Down syndrome, I set my mind on how can I provide a strong foundation to help her development and allow her to live a fulfilling life. At one-month-old, my husband and I took her camping in the midst of winter with negative temperatures outside. We bundled her up and went on hikes and she was in awe of the trees and sky which got me thinking of how exploring nature can promote development. Which again led to the name change to Sprouting Up Therapy.

I believe experiencing the outdoors is an important therapeutic aspect of one’s life for both physical and mental well-being. For children interventions can be performed outside to improve balance deficits, developmental delays, and sensory integration deficits. For adults, it improves mental health, encourages more movement, and can bring out our inner child. Utilizing the outdoors is more realistic to everyday life and has a greater functional component to treat the patient as a whole.

I, also, believe that education plays a large role in what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. With this blog, my goal is to educate parents on children’s milestones; educate patients on common injuries, anatomy involved, and recovery processes after injury or surgery; provide up-to-date research on evidence-based practice; educate patients on the importance of movement and body mechanics and its role on preventing many diseases; and lastly, educate patients on wellness.
