About Sprouting Up Therapy, PLLC
Background
“Sprouting Up Therapy was an idea conceived after receiving a prenatal diagnosis of my daughter’s Trisomy 21. After doctors pushed for abortion due to the health problems that are common with Down syndrome, I set my mind on how can I provide a strong foundation to help her development and allow her to live a fulfilling life. At one-month-old, my husband and I took her camping in the midst of winter with negative temperatures outside. We bundled her up and went on hikes and she was in awe of the trees and sky which got me thinking of how exploring nature can promote development.
I believe experiencing the outdoors is an important therapeutic aspect of one’s life for both physical and mental well-being. For children interventions can be performed outside to improve balance deficits, developmental delays, sensory integration deficits, and promote speech. For adults, it improves mental health, encourages more movement, and can bring out our inner child. Utilizing the outdoors is more realistic to everyday life and has a greater functional component to treat the patient as a whole.”
